John Healey instructed Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips the earlier Conservative authorities left the UK’s asylum system “in chaos” and the nation with “record levels of immigration”, which his authorities is having to take care of.

French police watched on whereas individuals, together with youngsters, boarded small boats within the shallows of a seashore in Gravelines, between Calais and Dunkirk.

Authorities had been then pictured escorting the boats as they sailed off in the direction of the UK.

Mr Healey mentioned: “Pretty shocking, those scenes yesterday.

“Fact is, Britain’s misplaced management of its borders during the last 5 years, and the final authorities final 12 months left an asylum system in chaos and file ranges of immigration.”

He said it is a “actually large drawback” that French police are unable to intervene to intercept boats in shallow waters.

“We saw the smugglers launching elsewhere and coming around like a taxi to pick them up,” Mr Healey added.

He mentioned the UK is urgent for the French to place new guidelines into operation to allow them to intervene.

“They’re not doing it, but for the first time for years, for the first time, we’ve got the level of cooperation needed,” Mr Healey mentioned.

“We’ve got the agreement that they will change the way they work, and our concentration now is to push them to get that into operation so they can intercept these smugglers and stop these people in the boats, not just on the shore.”

On Saturday, Conservative shadow house secretary Chris Philp accused Labour of getting “completely lost control of our borders”.
