A British pensioner has been arrested in Spain after allegedly making an attempt to smuggle greater than 60kg of hashish resin on to a ferry.

The person was detained after police found the drug in a UK-registered automobile at Ceuta, Spain’s North African enclave, on Sunday night.

The Civil Guard mentioned the automotive was certain for the port of Algeciras, with the 62.3kg of hashish “hidden” in a hid compartment constructed into the roof of the automobile.

The packages had been branded with names together with “dream gelato” and “cereal milk”.

The pressure mentioned officers carried out an intensive search of the automotive after being alerted by a sniffer canine.

The Civil Guard mentioned the arrested driver was a UK native and resident, and was born in 1956, making him 68 or 69.

The suspect was taken into custody and can later be dropped at court docket below an alleged drug trafficking offence.

A Civil Guard spokesperson added that the “seized substance” shall be handed over to a governmental well being division, whereas the automobile shall be positioned below the supervision of the courts.
