A British sailor is lacking within the Bay of Biscay after his broken yacht was discovered off the French coast.
A search was launched for the 73-year-old on Saturday after a misery beacon was launched 50 miles west of Lacanau at round 3pm, in response to the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture, a French authorities organisation.
He had earlier informed a close-by cargo ship he was protected and persevering with on his approach, after not responding to earlier radio messages.
A French air drive helicopter discovered the American flagged yacht – referred to as Tiger PA – at round 5.30pm.
Divers who winched right down to the “gutted” sailboat discovered no signal of the person.
A Portuguese cargo ship and a Spanish hospital ship had been diverted to the world and joined the search.
The French navy’s Falcon 50, a maritime surveillance plane, was additionally deployed at dusk.
The search was suspended at 1.33pm on Sunday, the Atlantic Maritime Prefecture added.
