A sea life park has reportedly threatened to euthanise 30 whales except the Canadian authorities permits it to ship them to China or gives emergency funding.

Marineland, in Niagara Falls, is alleged to have made the warning in a letter to the nation’s fisheries minister, Joanne Thompson, after its request for a allow to export the belugas was denied.

The minister denied the export licence as she mentioned it was towards the fisheries act and he or she was involved it might imply them being condemned to “further exploitation”.

“All whales belong in the ocean, not in tanks for entertainment purposes,” Ms Thompson advised reporters final week.

CBC says it has seen a letter, despatched on Friday, by which Marineland pleads that it’s in “a critical financial state” and might not correctly take care of the whales.

It reportedly warns it could actually not afford to pay for his or her feeding or care and faces “the devastating decision of euthanasia” if the export licence or emergency money is not supplied.

The park desires the 30 belugas to Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai, in China’s Guangdong province, which it says is the “only viable option”.

It argues it might be a “humane relocation to an accredited facility”.

Doug Ford, the premier of Ontario province, has mentioned he’s dissatisfied with the federal government’s choice.

“We need a proper home for them, simple as that,” he mentioned. “We gotta save the whales.”
