Canadian vacationer loses arms after shark assault within the Caribbean

A Canadian vacationer has misplaced each her arms after being attacked by a shark whereas on vacation within the Caribbean, her household says.

The 55-year-old girl, who has not been named by the authorities, was swimming in Providenciales, one of many Turks and Caicos Islands, on the morning of seven February when a six-foot shark approached her.

Island officers stated she had tried to interact with the shark from the shallows to take pictures.

They didn’t specify what accidents she had sustained, however stated she was “stabilised” at a neighborhood hospital earlier than being flown off of the island for additional medical care. Her household stated she was flown again to Canada for surgical procedure.

The sufferer’s brother-in-law has now arrange a GoFundMe web page for her and her husband, the place he revealed extra particulars in regards to the encounter.

He stated the shark initially ran into the sufferer’s legs, earlier than circling again and biting her thigh.

“Not satisfied, the shark came back again and when she put both hands in front of her to protect herself, the shark cut off both of her hands, one at mid forearm and the other at the wrist,” she wrote.

“Her husband, having rushed back to help, then managed to wrestle away the shark and stayed between her and the shark until she walked out of the water and collapsed on the beach.”

He stated the pair had lived “what can only be described as a nightmare” and the incident had “completely altered their life in the blink of an eye”.

The lady who made the funding web page stated her brother – the sufferer’s husband – served Canada via its armed forces for greater than 30 years, including: “It’s our turn to help them.”

The funding web page for the couple, made on Sunday, has already raised $23,000 CAD (£12,859).
