Catch-and-release rules lifted at Crandell Lake

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Eaton County Parks and Recreation will carry the catch-and-release rules at Crandell Lake beginning Tuesday, April 1.

A latest Division of Pure Sources survey of the lake discovered that the inhabitants of fish within the lake was excessive sufficient that sustainable fishing is feasible. The survey recognized a wide range of fish species, together with largemouth bass, yellow perch, bluegill, inexperienced sunfish, pumpkinseed, hybrid sunfish, white sucker, yellow bullhead, and golden shiners.

By permitting fishers to maintain their catch, the county hopes to lake’s fish inhabitants shall be higher manged, stopping overpopulation of sure species and enhancing the general well being of the ecosystem.

The county additionally hopes the change will encourage extra leisure fishing, boosting park attendance.

Parks and Recreation will proceed to watch the lake’s situations and fish populations, making certain accountable fishing practices and ecological stability. The county may even be posting state and native fishing rules on indicators across the lake.
