Central Michigan head coach Jim McElwain proclaims retirement

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (WLNS) – Sooner or later after taking down rival Western Michigan for the primary time since 2021, Central Michigan introduced head soccer coach Jim McElwain can be retiring on the finish of the season.

In keeping with the college’s press launch on Wednesday, McElwain will function Central Michigan’s head coach till a brand new coach is employed and can be on the sidelines for CMU’s season finale at Northern Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 30. The lifelong friendships that were created mean the world to us.”

McElwain’s first season as CMU’s head coach once more in 2019, when he turned a one-win program into an 8-6 crew, sharing the MAC West championship and incomes a berth within the New Mexico Bowl. It resulted in McElwain being named the MAC Coach of the Yr. In 2021, McElwain guided CMU to a 9-4 document and led the Chippewas to a historic 24-21 victory over Washington State within the Tony the Tiger Solar Bowl. The win marked the primary bowl victory over a Pac-12 opponent in MAC soccer historical past.

This season has been a down 12 months for the CMU soccer program, who had a 4-7 document on the time of McElwain’s retirement announcement.

Tuesday’s win over Western Michigan additionally marked the primary house win for CMU within the rivalry since 2010.
