Police in South Korea have arrested a 60-year-old fugitive behind a $13 million crypto rip-off after he was stopped for tossing a cigarette butt and tried to bribe his manner out of additional questioning. 

The Seoul Metropolitan Police Company introduced at this time that, on Wednesday, authorities stopped a person in Seoul’s Gwanak District after he tried to run away from a cigarette he’d simply discarded.

Native retailers report that the person, recognized solely by his surname “A,” pleaded with police to “let me go just this once” whereas making an attempt to hail a taxi.

The person refused to surrender his ID and instructed the officers, “I will give you money.”

He then tried to flee the scene and was arrested. After subsequent questioning, investigators found that the careless smoker was additionally behind a 17.7 billion received ($12.6 million) crypto rip-off that defrauded roughly 1,300 folks between 2018 and 2019. 

One other crypto legal who was unexpectedly caught by police was James Zhong. In 2012, Zhong stole 50,000 bitcoin (BTC), now price $5.6 billion, from the legal market Silk Highway and stashed the loot in bodily wallets round his home. 

Sadly for him, his home was burgled in 2019 and after calling the police to report the theft, the Inside Income Service turned concerned and his property have been traced again to the Silk Highway hack.

He was arrested and sentenced in 2023 to 1 yr in jail.
