A pair of Dame Edna Everage’s glasses have bought at public sale for £37,800, 25 instances their estimated worth.

The glasses had been anticipated to promote for between £1,000-£1,500, in keeping with Christie’s public sale home, who facilitated the sale.

They had been being bought as a part of the non-public assortment of Barry Humphries.

Dame Edna was one among Humphries’ best-known characters and have become successful within the UK within the Seventies.

The Australian star, who was recognized for his satirical characters together with Dame Edna and the offensive Sir Les Patterson, died in April 2023 on the age of 89, following issues suffered throughout hip surgical procedure.

The yellow-lacquered possum spectacles had been one among plenty of gadgets bought through the public sale, which was opened to bidders with Dame Edna’s much-loved phrase “Hello Possums”.

Christie’s described the sale as proof of “Edna’s enduring appeal”.

A primary version of Oscar Wilde’s The Significance Of Being Earnest, signed by Wilde to his writer, bought for £138,600, and a Charles Conder portray bought for nearly £240,000.

In the meantime, two attire worn by Dame Edna bought for £21,420 every, eight instances their pre-sale excessive estimates.

Quite a lot of different items of artwork, books and highlights of Humphries’ assortment had been additionally bought through the public sale which noticed bidders from 41 nations and lasted 9 hours.

The full sale worth reached £4,627,224, exceeding the pre-sale estimate.
