DOJ sues Michigan for failing to supply voter registration lists

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The USA Division of Justice’s (DOJ) Civil Rights Division has filed federal lawsuits in opposition to six states, together with Michigan, for failing to supply voter registration lists.

“Clean voter rolls are the foundation of free and fair elections,” mentioned Legal professional Common Pamela Bondi in a information launch despatched to six Information.

“Every state has a responsibility to ensure that voter registration records are accurate, accessible, and secure — states that don’t fulfill that obligation will see this Department of Justice in court.”

The DOJ stories that Bondi is tasked with imposing the Nationwide Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and the Assist America Vote Act (HAVA), “which were designed by Congress to ensure that states have proper and effective voter registration and voter list maintenance programs.”

Moreover, the DOJ says that Bondi can demand the “production, inspection, and analysis of the statewide voter registration lists,” through the Civil Rights Act of 1960 (CRA).

Different states named within the lawsuit embrace California, Minnesota, New York, New Hampshire, and Pennsylvania.
