LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A brand new passenger rail and bus station has been proposed in Detroit, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer introduced Tuesday.
Whitmer mentioned the brand new transportation hub will assist develop the financial system and make downtown Detroit extra vibrant.
Between the Michigan Division of Transportation, the Metropolis of Detroit and Michigan Central, the three events will make investments $40 million initially in direction of the hub that might be positioned within the 30-acre Michigan Central Innovation District.
“It builds on the historic investment in transit that we just made in the balanced, bipartisan budget I signed earlier this month,” Whitmer mentioned in an announcement.
The hub will present a direct connection between the Detroit-Ann Arbor Innovation Hall and Detroit Metro Airport. There may be additionally a proposed extension of an Amtrak route from Chicago to Detroit to Windsor, Ontario and Toronto.
