EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)—Rising up in East Lansing, Evan Boyd was all the time a fan of Michigan State and remembers watching athletes like Draymond Inexperienced and Darqueze Dennard.

Now, Boyd is a type of athletes repping the inexperienced and white.

After two seasons on Central Michigan’s soccer crew, Boyd entered the switch portal and introduced his determination to switch to MSU on the primary Saturday of 2025.

“Coming from a Group of 5 (school), you could say guys are a bit of an underdog, but I got a chip on my shoulder,” Boyd stated. “I’m excited for the test.”

Boyd took a redshirt throughout his first season with the Chippewas after which as a redshirt freshman in 2024, he recorded 302 receiving yards and two touchdowns. His season was lower brief after eight video games resulting from a proper collarbone harm, which required surgical procedure.

Nearly absolutely healed, Boyd is able to be part of the Spartans in January and get to work.

“After going over there and talking with everyone (MSU’s staff), it was a great feeling,” Boyd stated.

Whereas trying ahead to bettering his sport, Boyd knew MSU was the precise match due to how this system prepares gamers for all times after soccer.

“They’re a family culture around there and they’re big on the bigger picture, setting people up for life. Obviously playing football is great, but you can’t play football forever. So, that stuck out to me,” Boyd stated. “Then Coach Hawk (Courtney Hawkins), the development piece. I think he sent three guys to get drafted in the past four years and they’re all starting on NFL teams.”

Jayden Reed, Jalen Nailor and Keon Coleman are the three broad receivers who performed for Hawkins at MSU and at the moment are beginning within the NFL.

Boyd hopes to be an expert broad receiver sooner or later and can be part of forces at Michigan State with Nick Marsh, who led the crew in receiving yards as a freshman final season.
