LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — East Lansing Police Chief Jen Brown has launched an announcement on “significant disruptive incidents” in downtown East Lansing that occurred over the weekend following Michigan State College scholar move-in.
These incidents noticed a number of arrests, together with the Saturday arrest of two folks “wielding” knives, the police chief mentioned.
The police chief says the weekend was “very busy,” and that some movies taken by these within the space and posted to social media present giant crowds being dispersed by officers within the downtown space.
Brown says these crowds had been dispersed after fights broke out, which posed a hazard to the general public.
“We are aware of social media posts regarding some of these incidents. Camera footage submitted by the community and from officers’ body cameras are being reviewed at this time, including large crowds in which numerous fights took place,” Brown said. “We are currently reviewing what footage, if any, can be released so that it does not jeopardize open investigations and prosecution of arrested individuals.”
As a consequence of these incidents, Brown says ELPD known as for help from the Michigan State College Division of Police and Public Security, Meridian Township Police Division and Tub Township Police Division.
The investigation is ongoing.
