Eaton County Sheriff's Workplace eliminates afternoon patrol protection

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Eaton County Sheriff’s Workplace introduced that starting December 1, 2024, it should get rid of afternoon street patrol protection from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. to avoid wasting prices.

Officers say that as a result of the Separate Tax Limitation proposal didn’t get handed on the poll on November 5, the Sheriff determined to implement ‘cost-saving measures’ to decrease the price range and assist the present workers.

“My deputies cannot keep filling shifts with overtime. It is unsafe, unfair, and it comes at a high cost,” mentioned Eaton County Sheriff Tom Reich. “I have already spoken with or sent correspondence to the other law enforcement agencies in the County on this coming change.”

“The future of road patrol in this County is in flux,” mentioned Board of Commissioners Chair Jim Mott. “We do not have the funds, so unless we can secure more revenue systematic reductions are coming to Eaton County.”

The Sheriff’s Workplace reported that in 2022, the Sheriff’s Workplace eradicated midnight to six a.m. as a consequence of staffing shortages.

The current afternoon reduce will depart Deputies’ protection exterior of contracted areas from 6 a.m. to six p.m.

At the moment, there are 10 cadets within the academy but when the Sheriff’s Workplace can’t safe funding, the workplace won’t be able to maintain the cadets after Discipline Coaching, says the Sheriff’s Workplace in a information launch.
