Two Britons are believed to be amongst greater than a dozen individuals lacking after a ship sank within the Crimson Sea off the Egyptian coast.

The yacht, referred to as Sea Story, had 44 individuals on board, together with 31 vacationers of various nationalities and 13 crew.

Authorities are looking for 16 individuals, together with 12 international nationals and 4 Egyptians, the governor of the Crimson Sea area mentioned, including that 28 different individuals had been rescued.

Preliminary studies prompt a sudden massive wave struck the vessel, capsizing it inside about 5 minutes, governor Amr Hanafi mentioned.

“Some passengers were in their cabins, which is why they were unable to escape,” he added in an announcement.

Sea Story had no technical issues, obtained all required permits earlier than the journey, and was final checked for naval security in March, in line with officers.

The four-deck, wooden-hulled motor yacht was a part of a multi-day diving journey when it went down close to the coastal city of Marsa Alam following warnings about tough climate.

Officers mentioned a misery name was acquired at 5.30am native time on Monday.

The boat had left Port Ghalib in Marsa Alam on Sunday and was scheduled to succeed in its vacation spot of Hurghada Marina on 29 November.

The Sea Story was carrying 45 people according to a statement by the Red Sea Governorate.

Some survivors had been airlifted to security on a helicopter, officers mentioned.

The agency that operates the yacht, Dive Professional Liveaboard in Hurghada, mentioned it has no info on the matter.

The incident comes after the Egyptian Meteorological Authority issued a warning on Saturday about turbulence and excessive waves on the Crimson Sea.
