
A former tv presenter and heavy metallic drummer has turn out to be the primary girl to be elected prime minister of Japan. Sanae Takaichi is understood for her right-wing views and cites Margaret Thatcher as an inspiration.
However it’s not simply her political opinions which are controversial – Ms Takaichi has a love of exhausting rock and motorbikes, regardless of her deeply conservative background.
Why has it taken so lengthy for Japan to elect a feminine PM? And what challenges does she face domestically, in addition to on the world stage?
