GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — A Grand Rapids priest with the Anglican Catholic Church was faraway from place for making what seems to be a Nazi salute.
In line with a press release on the Anglican Catholic Church’s web site, Calvin Robinson was eliminated Wednesday after a video posted on X of his speech on the Nationwide Professional-Life Summit on Jan. 25 in Washington, D.C., confirmed him making “a gesture that many have interpreted as a pro-Nazi salute.” His license within the church was revoked, and he now not serves as a priest.
“We believe that those who mimic the Nazi salute, even as a joke or an attempt to troll their opponents, trivialize the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those who fought against its perpetrators. Such actions are harmful, divisive, and contrary to the tenets of Christian charity,” the assertion stated, partially.
In a press release posted to his Fb web page Wednesday, Robinson wrote, “For the record, in case it needs saying: I am not a Nazi.”
He characterised his gesture was “a joke” in “mockery of the hysterical ‘liberals’ who called Elon Musk a Nazi for quite clearly showing the audience his heart was with them.”
“Context is key, but sometimes people ignore context to confirm their own prejudices. People see what they want to see,” Robinson wrote.
“My attempt at dry wit, in that typical British way, was not a joke at the expense of WWII, nor an admission of my membership in the Nationalist Socialist Party. That would be an incredibly ignorant and bad faith assumption to make,” he continued. “The responses are very telling, though. The people who understand, cheer – those who have eyes to see. The people who do not want to understand, reach for their pitchforks.”
Robinson was a well known conservative commentator and priest in the UK earlier than he moved to Grand Rapids in 2024. On Thursday, he was nonetheless listed as priest-in-charge on St. Paul’s Anglican Catholic Church’s web site.
When Information 8 went to the church Thursday morning, a consultant from the Anglican headquarters in Atlanta was on website, didn’t remark and requested our crew to depart.
The Anglican Catholic Church posted the next assertion on Robinson Wednesday:
“At roughly 3:00 pm in the present day (1/29) members of the School of Bishops of the ACC have been made conscious of a publish made on X displaying the tip of a speech made by Calvin Robinson on the Nationwide Professional-Life Summit in Washington, DC. In it, he closed his feedback with a gesture that many have interpreted as a pro-Nazi salute.
“Whereas we can not say what was in Mr. Robinson’s coronary heart when he did this, his motion seems to have been an try to curry favor with sure parts of the American political proper by upsetting its opposition. Mr. Robinson had been warned that on-line trolling and different such actions (whether or not in service of the left or proper) are incompatible with a priestly vocation and was advised to desist. Clearly, he has not, and as such, his license on this Church has been revoked. He’s now not serving as a priest within the ACC.
“Moreover, we perceive that this isn’t simply an administrative matter. The Holocaust was an episode of unspeakable horror, enacted by a regime of evil males. We condemn Nazi ideology and anti-Semitism in all its types. And we imagine that those that mimic the Nazi salute, at the same time as a joke or an try to troll their opponents, trivialize the horror of the Holocaust and diminish the sacrifice of those that fought towards its perpetrators. Such actions are dangerous, divisive, and opposite to the tenets of Christian charity.
“Finally, we pray that God will give us grace to lay aside our unhappy divisions, and we commend our nation and ourselves to his Almighty protection.”
