Guinea: Greater than 50 individuals feared lifeless in soccer stadium stampede, official says

Greater than 50 individuals are feared lifeless after clashes between followers and a stampede at a soccer match in southeast Guinea, in accordance with the federal government.

Guinea’s authorities has stated round 56 individuals have been killed and extra injured after violence broke out over a contested purpose.

Prime Minister Mamadou Oury Bah stated the federal government “deplores the incidents that marred the football match”.

“During the stampede, victims were recorded,” he added, with out confirming the variety of deaths.

The match between Labe and Nzerekore on Sunday was the ultimate of a event in honour of the nation’s army chief Mamady Doumbouya.

In accordance with native media, the stampede occurred after a combat broke out between followers over a disputed referee resolution.

“This (a disputed penalty) angered supporters who threw stones,” Media Guinea reported. “This is how the security services used tear gas,”

Opposition group Nationwide Alliance for Change and Democracy stated authorities have “significant responsibility for these grave events”.
