How sanctioned items are stepping into Russia

Sanctions on Russia had been launched two years in the past shortly after the beginning of the nation’s Ukrainian invasion. The aim? To restrict the Russian battle machine and starve Russian oligarchs of entry to luxurious gadgets.

Our economics and knowledge editor Ed Conway observed that gross sales of British luxurious automobiles to Russia had fallen away to nearly nothing, but gross sales to former Soviet states similar to Azerbaijan and Georgia have massively elevated. The suspicion was that these vehicles would then one way or the other make it into Russia, however we didn’t know the way.

On this episode, Niall Paterson sits down with Ed to seek out out the method by which sanctioned luxurious European vehicles discover their technique to Moscow.
