LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Brokers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement performed an operation in Meridian Township Thursday morning, Township Supervisor Scott Hendrickson confirmed.
“This morning, our police department learned ICE would be performing an operation in the Township,” Hendrickson mentioned in a telephone interview with 6 Information Thursday afternoon.
“At this time, the operation has concluded. We do not know what the operation was. Our police officers were not involved. Meridian Township Police do not assist in enforcing federal immigration laws,” he mentioned.

“We want to make sure residents feel safe,” Hendrickson mentioned. As such, he’s encouraging group members to “have a plan” and “to be sure to know your rights.”
Anybody who witnesses ICE exercise or is contacted, he mentioned, “absolutely should call the Michigan Immigrant Resource Center or the ACLU.”
