KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Workplace says two workers are on administrative go away and its jail has modified its protocols after seven jail inmates have been left alone in a courtroom transport van for about two hours.

On Monday, seven jail inmates sporting handcuffs and ankle shackles have been left in a van contained in the county jail’s storage for nearly two hours, the sheriff’s workplace says. The jail has additionally put new protocol in place that requires inmates to be unloaded within the jail receiving storage as an alternative of the transport storage. It additionally requires empty transport vans to be saved with a passenger door open.

“It is believed these new procedures will mitigate an incident like this from happening again,” the discharge says. “… This incident does not represent the work performed here at KCSO, and we are deeply disturbed that this occurred.”
