Jackson discussing parking insurance policies for downtown companies

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — The Jackson County Chamber of Commerce is at present discussing parking within the space—and its new plan seems to deal with funding shortcomings and develop downtown companies.

“We think this is a balanced approach that kind of meets the needs of businesses, their workers, and residents and visitors for downtown Jackson, said President of the Chamber of Commerce Ryan Tarrant. “You have acquired this engaged group that you already know is working collectively and has a dialogue to provide you with the absolute best resolution.”

(WLNS)

The Chamber’s proposal seems to boost parking fines from round $7 to $28 and enhance allow charges by 25%.

“And really, what that allows us to do is take a look at that after a year and say, ‘did we make enough revenue to take care of those parking lots and that parking infrastructure?’ You know, and to have that conversation on an ongoing basis versus it becoming just another tax,” Tarrant mentioned.

The plan additionally provides a free or decreased allow possibility for low-income downtown employees to verify they’ve entry to reasonably priced parking areas.

“I mean, think of a busboy at one of our local restaurants. You know, sometimes it’s not feasible for everybody to be able to pay for that monthly parking pass, and a $28.00 ticket is maybe more than they were to make in a couple hours’ shift,” Tarrant mentioned.

HMN Fashion supervisor Cassie Castillo says she hopes the brand new proposal will maintain parking open for all clients.

“We at HMN Style, we pay for five spots, and daily, there are multiple different people parking in those specific spots that don’t pay for the spots,” Castillo mentioned.

Tarrant says group assist can be very important for the success of this method and provides the plan is not going to have an effect on the two-hour free parking out there day by day downtown.
