Jackson Metropolis Council approves financial growth partnership

JACKSON, Mich. (WLNS) — The Metropolis of Jackson is teaming up with Speed up Jackson County to assist strengthen the native enterprise neighborhood, work to construct stronger ties with main employers, and produce new redevelopment alternatives to the realm.

“I think there are opportunities, one just to make sure that our business community and industry knows that the city and the community cares about what they’re doing,” stated President and CEO of Speed up Jackson Kevin Gillenwater.

The Jackson Metropolis Council has accepted a brand new $50,000 contract with the financial growth company as step one to revitalizing the town.

“I hope it will both grow the employers that we have in town to promote the great things we do in Jackson and also add new employers who can create jobs in our community,” stated Metropolis Supervisor Jonathan Greene. 

Speed up Jackson, beforehand referred to as the Enterprise Group of Jackson, shall be accountable for enterprise retention, property advertising, and strategic planning for the town.

“They have a growth mindset and that’s something that’s very exciting to us. We have not been the official economic development arm of the city for a number of years, and so we were excited to work with Jonathan and the City Council and Mayor Mahoney to make this a reality,” Gillenwater stated. 

Gillenwater says the corporate desires to rebuild the town’s manufacturing economic system.

“How do we build some new industrial sites? How do we put some life back into the ones that are maybe tired or aren’t quite adding what they maybe once did and how do we help them grow?” Gillenwater stated.

Greene says the primary purpose of this new partnership is to have extra of a presence within the metropolis.

“So that when times are tough, we can call on each other and try to figure things out to make things better,” Greene stated. “And then when times are good to figure out ways we can promote each other, promote growth, and promote success in in the business community.”

Officers say the following step is sitting down with native enterprise leaders to speak about neighborhood wants and set clear targets for wat this partnership can ship.
