Mayor ‘appalled’ by Jenrick feedback

“You go to some locations like Handsworth and different elements of the nation, elements of Dewsbury, Bradford, Leicester, the place you see only a single tradition, a single ethnicity in some elements of these areas.

“So we don’t think that’s a healthy thing, a community should be integrated.

“This is not about pores and skin color, as Rob clearly identified.

“This is about culture and there are real concerns that some cultures are completely separating themselves from mainstream society.”

Mr Hollinrake mentioned that as a result of Mr Jenrick was not speaking about race, the feedback can’t be racist.

“I don’t believe it’s divisive and racist,” he mentioned.

“I think where society does not come together, when we let those kinds of separation entrench itself.

“So we must always not shrink back from these troublesome points, the place they exist and if, if individuals can see fairly clearly for themselves.

“Some communities are deliberately separating themselves from mainstream society. That cannot be healthy.”

On Tuesday, Mr Jenrick doubled down on his feedback, saying he wouldn’t “shy away” from problems with integration.
