Just some automobiles can drive over Mackinac Bridge amid excessive winds

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The Mackinac Bridge is closed to some automobiles Monday morning resulting from excessive winds.

Solely passenger automobiles, passenger vans and empty pickup vans are allowed on the bridge, the Mackinac Bridge Authority stated. Wind speeds within the Straits space have reached 64 mph.

A pilot’s fateful flight beneath the Mackinac Bridge

These driving on the bridge should drive at 20 mph or beneath and may concentrate on robust winds blowing throughout the bridge.

“The Mackinac Bridge Authority is monitoring wind speeds at various points along the structure,” the bridge authority stated. “Additional steps will be implemented if conditions change.”

In an 11:40 a.m. replace, the bridge authority confirmed it was nonetheless closed to some automobiles. On Sunday, ‘high-profile automobiles’ like motor properties or semi-trucks required an escort.

A number of West Michigan counties are beneath a wind advisory till 8 p.m. Monday.
