'Kingpin' of interstate drug trafficking ring will get 27 years

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The person who a decide described because the “kingpin” of an interstate trafficking ring that introduced medication to Michigan is headed to a federal jail.

Jason Demyers, 44, of Arizona, was sentenced to 27 years in jail, the U.S. Legal professional’s Workplace stated in a Thursday launch.

Folks concerned within the trafficking ring would fly from California to Michigan with medication, then fly again with the cash from promoting them, federal prosecutors say. Investigators say they introduced kilos of cocaine and meth to the Detroit, Kalamazoo and Lansing areas between August 2022 and July 2024. Demyers, who had “significant” ties to Lansing, helped lead the ring and himself managed transport about 10 kilos of meth, the feds say.

In all, investigators say they confiscated 10 kilos (about 22 kilos) of meth, 8 kilos (about 17.6 kilos) of cocaine, and a few $325,000 in jewellery related to the conspiracy.

Dymers is amongst 14 folks charged within the trafficking ring, 12 of whom have pleaded responsible and two of whom are actually a part of a prison diversion program. Seven, together with Dymers, have been sentenced:

Franchot Barnes: 27 years

Jonathan Conner: 3 years, 1 month

Jamar Goins: 6.5 years

Jomo Grady: 17.5 years

Lanise Moody: 3 years, 4 months

Evette Wallace: 9 years, 2 months

The remainder of the defendants needs to be sentenced by the tip of June.
