A bag belonging to the US Homeland Safety Secretary was stolen on Sunday evening – containing 1000’s of {dollars} in money and an ID card that provides entry to safe company buildings.

Kristi Noem was consuming at a Washington DC burger restaurant with household when a person in a face protecting sat close to her desk and stole her purse, based on two folks aware of the theft.

The cupboard secretary was carrying $3,000 (£2,243) in money as a result of “her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren”, Division of Homeland Safety spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin instructed NBC.

“She was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities and Easter gifts.”

Simply earlier than 8pm, a person sporting an N-95 masks walked into the restaurant and up just a few stairs to the place Ms Noem was consuming dinner.

He sat close to her desk and moved his chair near hers earlier than sliding her purse towards him along with his foot, based on surveillance footage considered by legislation enforcement, the sources mentioned.

Inside minutes, the person had Ms Noem’s purse beneath his jacket and walked out of the restaurant.

No less than two on-duty members of the US Secret Service had been within the restaurant – between Ms Noem and the entrance doorways – based on a supply who witnessed the meal.

The purse additionally contained bank cards, clean cheques, her passport, driver’s licence and a set of keys.

When requested concerning the incident, Ms Noem mentioned: “I don’t think I can comment on it yet. It’s not resolved yet.”

Ms Noem is a vocal supporter of Donald Trump’s insurance policies of deporting undocumented immigrants and fortifying the US-Mexico border to gradual unlawful migration.
