Lansing Catholic and Holt use stellar pitching performances to advance within the Diamond Basic

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The 63rd Annual Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Basic opened play on Monday night time and was highlighted by two unbelievable pitching performances.

Sport one of many night noticed Holt shut out Charlotte 1-0. Rams beginning pitcher Mitchell DuBois pitched the entire sport, racking up 10 strikeouts. The lone run got here within the high of the second, when Jacob Metzger hit a grounder down the left subject line, scoring Ethan Parce.

“He’s been hurt since kind of the beginning of this season, and I’m new this year, the coaching staff, so I haven’t seen him this season be able to pitch,” Holt Baseball coach Carlos Berroa stated. “He’s kind of been working through some injuries, but I told him, ‘I need to see that dog, that Mitch DuBois I’ve heard about.’ It was amazing to see him go out there. I went out to the mound, and he said, ‘Coach, I want to win this! I want to end it.’ So just to see him show up, to see him battle and win it, and to do what he did for the team was incredible. I’m so proud of him.”

“I was locating pretty well, and you know my slider was pretty filthy today, not going to lie,” Holt senior pitcher Mitchell DuBois stated. “It feels great, and first, I just want to thank God for allowing me to be out here today. It is such a great blessing to be out here with these teammates, and I am so grateful for that, so all glory to him. It is just an awesome feeling, going out there all seven innings after kind of not pitching all season. To be out there and represent the Holt Rams and have a great defense behind me, I just pitched like I knew I could.”

The Rams will now play Okemos on Thursday, Could twenty second at 5 pm.

The nightcap noticed Lansing Catholic take down the defending champions, DeWitt, 6-1. Cougars ace Drew Tolfree had his full arsenal on show, going 5 hitless innings and accumulating 12 strikeouts. The Cougars’ run assist got here within the high of the fourth, scoring 5 runs, then including a further run within the high of the seventh because of an Alex Fernandez RBI single. Fernandez was 3-for-4 with 3 hits and 1 RBI.

“Drew, he’s a workhorse man,” Lansing Catholic coach Dillon Reust stated. “We call him the Unicorn because he has an above 4.0 GPA, can throw strikes, and can hit the ball. He is justa great leader on and off the field. He’s special, and he’s going to do great things. This team really just rallies behind him like I’ve never seen before.”

“To be honest, I would say everything was working,” Lansing Catholic senior pitcher Drew Tolfree stated. I knew that I had a terrific group behind me to defend the ball when it was put in play, and I used to be simply assured on the mound. I felt wonderful on the market!”

Lansing Catholic will play Williamston on Thursday, Could twenty second at 7 pm.
