Lansing Empowerment Community meets to battle in opposition to gun violence 

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A neighborhood non-profit is working to fight gun violence by collaborating with neighborhood members to create safer environments for the youth.

The Lansing Empowerment Community hosted its first-ever in-person 360 Prevention Collaborative assembly on Wednesday afternoon.

The group’s essential purpose is to scale back and stop gun violence within the Lansing space. 

Mike Lynn, president of the Lansing Empowerment Community says they have been assembly with completely different organizations involving youth outreach and mentorships for greater than a yr. 

Now, they’ve lastly began their in-person conferences. 

He says they’ve stored observe of knowledge involving gun-related incidents in Lansing to maintain the neighborhood protected. 

“On a positive note, were down by 8% in our non-fatal shootings. Our closure rates are climbing up a little bit. I think we’re at an 80% closure rate right now for homicides,” stated Lynn. “So, those are all the numbers were kinda tracking to make sure we’re on the right path for the community.”

Mayor Andy Schor, Lansing Police Chief Robert Backus, and Willie Barney, founder and CEO of Omaha Empowerment Community which the Lansing Community is modeled in any case attended the assembly.
