Lansing Police open inner investigation after officer shoots canine throughout site visitors cease

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Lansing Police Division (LPD) has opened an inner investigation after two law enforcement officials shot a canine when it bit them throughout a site visitors cease of a theft suspect.

LPD stated in a Fb submit yesterday that they’re conscious of a video being shared on social media displaying the incident and, “have opened an internal investigation into the matter.”

LPD says the incident occurred on Thursday, Jan. 16 at round 3:15 p.m. when officers tried to cease a suspect with excellent warrants and a larceny grievance within the 400 Block of South Francis Ave.

Officers discovered the suspect in his car and tried to put him in custody. One other topic was within the car on the time of the arrest.

The suspect refused to exit his car and resisted the officers. The canine contained in the car bit the officer’s palms and arms whereas they struggled with the suspect. The canine continued to chew the officer’s legs after the suspect was faraway from the automotive.

LPD says officers had been nonetheless trying to put the resisting suspect underneath arrest when an officer shot and killed the canine.

“This was an unfortunate situation which resulted from Lansing officers placing a suspect into custody who was resisting officers both inside the vehicle and outside,” stated LPD in an electronic mail assertion despatched to six Information.
