A person has been arrested following a hearth on the constituency workplace of Labour MP Sharon Hodgson.
Northumbria Police stated the person, in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of prison injury and arson and stays in custody.
“Shortly after 12.20am today [Thursday], we were alerted to a fire at a premises on Woodland Terrace in the Washington area,” a spokesperson stated.
“Emergency services attended and no one is reported to have been injured in the incident.”
Tyne and Put on Hearth and Rescue Service have been referred to as to the scene at Vermont Home, house to the Sunderland constituency workplace of the Washington and Gateshead South MP, simply previous midnight.

“An incident occurred overnight at Sharon’s office,” a spokesperson for the Labour MP stated.
“We won’t be commenting or speculating whereas there’s an ongoing police investigation, what we’re clear on is there isn’t a place for this sort of violence in our society.

Ms Hodgson has been a Labour MP within the north east of England since 2005. She can also be the vice chair of Labour Buddies of Israel.
Chief fireplace officer, Peter Heath, stated: “I want to commend our crews for their swift and professional response to this serious incident. Their actions ensured the fire was contained quickly and safely, with no reported casualties.
“We proceed to work carefully with our companions as investigations progress.”
Councillor Phil Tye, chair of the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Authority, said: “Our ideas are with everybody affected by this incident. I would wish to thank our firefighters and management employees for his or her dedication and teamwork throughout what could also be a difficult investigation.
“We remain committed to supporting our communities and partners.”
