Man charged with arson after main fireplace at MP Sharon Hodgson’s constituency workplace

A person has been charged after a significant fireplace at an MP’s constituency workplace.

Joshua Oliver, 28, has been charged with arson after a blaze on the workplace of Labour MP Sharon Hodgson, at Vermont Home in Washington, Tyne and Put on.

The hearth additionally wrecked a charity base and an NHS psychological well being service for veterans.

Oliver will seem at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court docket on Saturday.

Northumbria Police beforehand stated it was “alerted to a fire at a premises on Woodland Terrace in the Washington area” shortly after 12.20am on Thursday.

“Emergency services attended and no one is reported to have been injured in the incident,” it added.

Drone footage from the scene reveals intensive injury to the constructing.

A spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service stated: “Our prosecutors have labored to ascertain that there’s enough proof to carry the case to trial and that it’s within the public curiosity to pursue felony proceedings.

“We have worked closely with Northumbria Police as they carried out their investigation.”
