Man severely injured after ‘stabbing’ at Berlin Holocaust memorial

A person has been severely injured in an assault on the Berlin Holocaust memorial.

Police mentioned he was attacked by “an unknown person” at about 6pm native time – with native media reporting it was a stabbing.

“The injured man was taken to hospital. Rescue workers are on site caring for several people who had to witness the events. Investigations are ongoing at the crime scene,” police mentioned on X.

The suspect remains to be at giant and officers mentioned the motive was up to now unclear they usually cannot but verify what weapon was used.

The memorial, which opened in 2005, is a cluster of greater than 2,700 gray concrete slabs of various heights and is a well known web site within the German capital.

Police have cordoned off the memorial, situated near the Brandenburg Gate, whereas searches happen.

The assault comes two days earlier than Sunday’s nationwide election.
