Mason girl honored as 'Citizen of the Yr'

MASON, Mich.(WLNS)— An area girl is being acknowledged for her work locally as “Citizen of The Year,” as properly a day devoted to her. 

Linda Hughson, Government Director for the Mason Neighborhood Companies, was honored as “Citizen of the Year,” and a day was devoted to her by the town of Mason. 

Hughson says she realized the information 6 weeks in the past, and nonetheless can’t consider her metropolis would give her such a hueg honor. 

“We’ve chosen you for citizen of the year. Um, I was blown away. I was actually in tears. I still cry thinking about it,” mentioned Hughson.

Hughson says her love of aiding others started 5 years in the past. 

“Another gal and I got together, and we kind of shared the same vision. What can we provide in the community in need?” said Hughson. “Especially when you’ve got families.” 

In 2022, that imaginative and prescient turned a actuality, offering companies to individuals in her city. 

“So we have diapers. We help with diapers. We have clothing, a shoe bank, and personal care,” said Hughson. “We also provide vouchers for laundry because laundry is very, very important for mental and physical health.” 

Why does Hughson exit of her means for others? 

Hughson says she is aware of what it’s prefer to wrestle. 

“I’ve been a single mom. I’ve been in a position without,” said Hughson. “I know what it’s like to receive help, and so, if I can help somebody. I’m like, it just makes my day.” 

She says in addition they assist individuals with their taxes free of charge and supply transportation to medical appointments. 

“We do transports to DHS or social security,” said Hughson. “You know, whatever the need may be.” 

Hughson says she had no concept she was getting the award and a day devoted to herself. 

“We do hereby proudly proclaim Friday, April 4th, 2025, as MACC Linda Hughson Day,” mentioned Hughson. 

What makes this award so particular? 

“And that was history in Mason because that has never happened before. He told me. That the citizen of the year also gets a proclamation from the mayor in the city of Mason,” said Hughson. “He says that has never happened before. This is history.”
