MASON, Mich. (WLNS) — On Christmas Eve, the Mason-Holt Eagles hosted their fifth annual Vacation Meals Drive, donating meals to assist Mid-Michigan households.
Peggy Dewitt determined to reward the group along with her share of donations and says she and her husband donate yearly.
“I just feel the need to give back to the community,” said Dewitt. “and there’s so many people and kids that are hungry out there and it’s just a great organization to donate to.”
Heather Dunivon, one of many organizers of the occasion, says they accepted non-perishable gadgets and money donations.
“We are all in need at some point for some things,” said Dunivon. “So, being able to pay it forward and helping others. It warms our heart, just as much as it does the people that it helps.”
She says all the donations will go to meals banks in Mason and Holt. Final yr, she says they collected over a thousand kilos value of meals.
“Our goal is to double is to hopefully if not up it,” said Dunivon. “Double it is what we’re shooting for.”
She says the occasion was a good way to start out the brand new yr, serving to one household at a time.
“Because there is such a big need over the winter,” said Dunivon. “So, we like to give this after the holidays because it keeps the food going for those that need it. They need it all year round, not just at the holidays.”
Dunivon says they raised $2,247 by the top of the occasion.
