MDHHS implements new instrument for youth behavioral well being

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Division of Well being and Human Companies has applied a brand new instrument that they are saying will assist strengthen entry to behavioral well being companies for Michigan youth.

The Michigan Youngster and Adolescent Wants and Strengths (MichiCANS) instrument will exchange currently-used screening instruments such because the Preschool and Early Childhood Purposeful Evaluation Scale and the Youngster and Adolescent Purposeful Evaluation Scale.

“The MichiCANS tool prioritizes collaboration to identify and communicate the individual needs and strengths of Michigan youth and families in need of behavioral health services,” mentioned Elizabeth Hertel, MDHHS director. “This new approach will ensure the stories of youth and families are heard and valued throughout the assessment and care planning process. It also helps promote quality screening and assessment standards across the state to ensure exceptional behavioral health services can be delivered equitably to those in need.”

All pay as you go inpatient well being plans, neighborhood psychological well being service suppliers, and licensed neighborhood behavioral well being clinics in Michigan have integrated MichiCANS into their processes for coping with households. The state requires it for use for all infants, toddlers, youth, and younger adults as much as 20 years of age. 

The instrument consists of two elements— an preliminary screener and a complete examination.
