LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Merdian Township Police Division is making ready for its deer cull from Jan. 13 to Feb. 16 as a part of the Townships Deer Administration Program.

Meridian Township experiences that the cull will happen in chosen Township parks, land preserves and personal property the place consent was offered. Meridian Township cops will cull through the night and in a single day hours when the parks are closed.

Cull websites have been pre-selected primarily based on their suitability for protected and managed culling of the deer herd. Parks will stay open from daybreak until nightfall and indicators have been posted to inform guests.

“Traffic crashes involving deer have plagued Meridian Township for many years. These crashes are dangerous and lead to significant property damage, injuries, and sometimes even fatalities. The success of our deer cull can be observed in the data,” mentioned Meridian Township Police Chief Rick Grillo in a information launch despatched to six Information.

Meridian Township carried out the deer cull in 2020 to reply to the overpopulation of white-tailed deer. The plan will look to cut back deer-related accidents and promote organic variety.
