Metropolis of Jackson celebrates Chief Elmer Hitt's retirement

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Jackson’s Director of Police and Fireplace Providers, Elmer Hitt is retiring, and the town held a celebration at Jackson Metropolis Corridor Friday afternoon to thank him for his 29 years of service to the neighborhood.

The outgoing chief spoke on the occasion, saying he is happy with the nice work officers do locally every single day and that he is aware of he is leaving the division in good palms. He thanked his household, fellow officers, and neighborhood for his or her assist over his nearly three-decade-long profession.

Hitt began his profession in Jackson as a police cadet when he was 18 years outdated, climbing the ranks till he was appointed Director of Police and Fireplace Providers in 2017.

The Metropolis of Jackson can also be splitting its police and hearth departments into two separate departments. Tim Gonzales, a Jackson native who has been with the Jackson Fireplace Division for 17 years, is now the town’s Fireplace Chief, having beforehand served because the Deputy Fireplace Chief.

Christopher Simpson, a lifelong Jackson resident, was sworn in on Feb. 11 as the subsequent Chief of the Jackson Police Division. Simpson has intensive expertise in native legislation enforcement, presently serving as Undersheriff for the Jackson County Sheriff’s Workplace.
