Michigan Division of Corrections conducts worker psychological well being research

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan Division of Corrections (MDOC) is conducting a psychological well being research amongst staff to raised determine “challenges and promote workplace wellness.”

MDOC stories that the research, referred to as the Roadmap to Elevate and Advance Correctional Well being (R.E.A.C.H.), is carried out in collaboration with the division’s Wellness Unit and felony justice professors from the US and Canada.

The preliminary knowledge assortment course of for the multi-year research, which started on September 8, is out there to all correctional division staff.

Observe-up interviews will likely be carried out with choose members over the course of three years to assist “analyze long-term wellness trends.”

“We prioritize the physical health and safety of those working in our department every day, but we cannot overlook that mental health is also part of that equation,” MDOC Director Heidi E. Washington stated in a information launch despatched to six Information.

“The data collection in this inventory has the potential to not only improve the well-being of our staff, but those working in corrections across the country.”

The MDOC stories that correctional staff expertise excessive charges of PTSD and signs of melancholy, nervousness, and power stress.

“The R.E.A.C.H. study will be invaluable to our work, as it has the potential to completely change how we think about correctional employee well-being in the future,” MDOC Wellness Program Supervisor Steve Lindeman stated in a information launch despatched to six Information.

“This study will help us to define and break down some of the barriers we encounter in this work so we can continue to reach new people and provide effective support to the entire MDOC community.”
