Michigan doctor travels to Jamaica to assist with hurricane aid 

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — After Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica, the nation and its persons are slowly choosing up the items — and a doctor from East Lansing is doing what she will be able to to assist. 

Jamaica holds a really particular place in Elizabeth Kozlowski’s coronary heart.

“I did a semester abroad. When I was in college. Went down there for four months, went to Kingston, went to University of West Indies. I did, I worked in a health clinic down there,” said Kozlowski. “This was before I had went to medical school and just fell in love with Jamaica.”

Kozlowski, an osteopathic household doctor at Kozmic Care in East Lansing, says she’s touring to Jamaica on Saturday and is asking her neighborhood for donations to offer medical help to folks in want. 

Her love for Jamaica is what made her proceed to journey to the nation to maintain offering take care of the locals for years.

After studying of the destruction attributable to Hurricane Melissa, Kozlowski knew she needed to step up and provides again to the nation she holds so pricey in her coronary heart.

I mean, some areas, like, not only was homes just totally flattened, hospitals gone, electricity is out, they have no water, there’s no food,” said Kozlowski. “None of the grocery stores have food. The banks aren’t open. People aren’t able to get cash to even buy food.”

Even her sufferers have helped out, sending tons of of {dollars} that’ll be used for medical provides, water filters, and way more. 

“You know, these are people that when you go down on your vacation, they’re the ones that are taking care of you and making sure that you’re okay,’ said Kozlowski. “And we have this opportunity to help people. And I would hope that everybody would give a little, whatever you can do, right?”
