Michigan Governor requests Presidental Emergency Declaration for northern Michigan

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Governor Gretchen Whitmer has requested a Presidential Emergency Declaration (EM) in northern Michigan and the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indian after extreme ice storms affected 12 counties.

On Wednesday, Gov. Whitmer made the official request after assembly with President Donald Trump and she or he shared an replace on harm evaluation and restoration efforts. If the President approves the Emergency Declaration it can authorize as much as $5 million in instant public help.

Initially, Whitmer declared a state of emergency for 10 counties and has expanded to incorporate Alcona, Alpena, Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Mackinac, Montmorency, Oscoda, Otsego, and Presque Isle counties.
