MSP air crews honored on Aviation Day 

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Michigan State Police Aviation Unit performs an enormous position to find lacking folks and searching down harmful suspects, and Tuesday, MSP honored their laborious work statewide. 

In honor of Nationwide Aviation Day, the Michigan State Police is highlighting the important position the Search and Rescue helicopters play in defending Michigan residents. Sgt. Cole Martin says the aviation unit has been saving Michiganders since 1939.

Martin says the search and rescue unit patrols 5 nights per week, and again in April, they saved a lacking 2-year-old in Jackson County. Col. Charles Scruggs, a state trooper and canine handler, works alongside the unit and says the helicopters assist them throughout missions.
