MSU administration a no-show at Israel divestment city corridor

MSU administration a no-show at Israel divestment city corridor

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A bunch of pro-Palestinian college students at Michigan State College invited the college’s president and Board of Trustees to a neighborhood city corridor Wednesday evening to debate the establishment’s divestment from Israel. None of them confirmed up.

For months, college students have been calling on directors to cancel any monetary investments with firms in or associated to Israel as a technique to protest the violence in Gaza.

Organizers from the pro-Palestine Hurriya Coalition, a bunch of greater than twenty scholar organizations, mentioned that no less than 4 members of the Board of Trustees instructed them they’d attend the assembly—Brianna Scott, Reema Vassar, Dennis Denno, and Mike Balow.

In the long run, they weren’t in attendance, with organizers saying they obtained an electronic mail final minute from the trustees saying they have been not going to attend.

Lots of of scholars have been on the city corridor at 7 p.m. Wednesday, calling for divestment. Organizers say the college has solely held conferences on this subject behind closed doorways—in unhealthy religion.

“Think, as you’ll notice, there’s four of us up here and there are nine people missing, the eight trustees and the president. They emailed us this morning at the last minute and said that they were no longer going to show up,” says Jesse Estrada White, one of many organizers. “Maybe you should show up. We’re going to pack a room with a couple hundred people and they have a lot of questions for you. And we think your mission of civil discourse, which I think we’ve pretty well shown, is a lie. They chose not to show up.”

MSU has claimed that it has no direct investments in Israeli firms.

6 Information has reached out to the college for remark, and we’ll replace you if we obtain a response.
