MSU gymnastics places collectively highest season-opening rating in win over WMU

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Coming off this system’s second straight Large Ten common season championship and first-ever Large Ten Championships title, the Michigan State gymnastics staff started a brand new season on Saturday.

The No. 11 Spartans welcomed in Western Michigan and put collectively their highest season-opening rating in a 196.850-194.675 victory.

It is the fourth straight season MSU has recorded this system’s highest-ever rating in a season-opener.

Standout junior Nikki Smith was the All-Round winner on and took first place within the vault (9.950) and bars (9.875).

“Very excited for how they came out,” MSU gymnastic coach Mike Rowe stated. “They stayed true to what the point of today was. We wanted to set a foundation, a strong foundation for Team 51, and then take it from there.”

MSU will proceed the season on Friday, Jan. 10, in Gainsville, Florida to compete within the Florida Quad. The following house sport for the Spartans might be Friday, Jan. 17, after they host Michigan on the Breslin Heart.
