NAACP Lansing calls on native leaders to intervene in 'inhumane' eviction

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The NAACP Lansing Department is looking on elected officers to intervene in what it says is an unlawful try to evict residents of Kristana Cellular Residence Park in Dewitt Twp.

“This is not just a housing issue — it is a civil rights issue,” wrote the group in a press launch obtained by 6 Information. “When landlords exploit loopholes, misrepresent occupancy, and leave families without basic services like water and sewer, they violate the dignity and humanity of residents who already face barriers to fair and stable housing.”

Residents of the park have beforehand advised 6 Information they acquired discover the park was shutting down on brief discover in the beginning of April, resulting from declining occupancy charges and the lack to keep up the park. “These residents — many of whom are low-income and long-time homeowners — are experiencing what amounts to a mass constructive eviction and retaliatory displacement by a property owner who is acting without proper licensure, without legal justification, and is in direct violation of Michigan housing law,” wrote the group.

The group is looking on native and state leaders to revive secure water providers to the park and implement protections and relocation funding for the residents. Extra calls for embody a court docket injunction to halt any displacement or compelled relocations and a moratorium on evictions from unlicensed cell residence parks.

Additionally they need the Division of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs and the Division of Legal professional Common to conduct a full investigation into what they name a “pattern” of unlawful eviction by the park’s proprietor.
