LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Rising security at locations of worship is now a subject many non secular leaders are advocating for after a taking pictures and hearth at a church in Grand Blanc left 4 individuals useless and injured a number of others.

Pastor Brigitte Brown of the Rivers of Life Church in Holt says she heard the information of Sunday’s incident from a member of her congregation.

“And I used to be similar to, oh my God, not once more, you recognize, as a result of we simply had one,” stated Brigitte Brown. 

Brown says they’ve safety monitoring their buildings always, however now they’re taking much more steps to make sure everybody’s security. 

“Yeah, we’ll probably apply some more pressure, assign some more people to those positions,” said Brown. “But we also have camera security.”

David Kerr, Director of Communications with the Diocese of Lansing, says the security and safety of anybody who involves worship in a catholic church is their prime precedence.

 “If within the mild of yesterday’s tragic occasions in Grand Blanc, there are classes to be discovered or modifications to be made, then relaxation assured we’ll make these modifications and be taught these classes,” stated David Kerr.

Again in 2002, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in East Lansing caught on hearth attributable to arson. 

It has since been rebuilt, however Bryan Nonetheless, who attended the church, says the Grand Blanc assault hit near residence. 

“Because I think about what I saw when I was seven,” said Bryan Still. “I was just a kid when I saw my church on fire, to have it with the same faith, the same denomination, just up the road, not far from where I was as a kid. That part was unsettling for sure.”

Pastor Brown says her safety guards may begin doing bag checks for companies, and hopes that different locations of worship will implement related measures. 

“There’s a component as leaders and as pastors that we now have to essentially grasp and see that is the time we’re dwelling in now,” stated Brown.

“I am appalled by Sunday’s horrific attack in Grand Blanc Township. Targeted violence is never acceptable, and we must always work to protect the rights of every American to peacefully gather to practice their faith. I want to thank emergency responders and local, state, and federal law enforcement partners for their quick response to this attack, as well as the heroic folks who stepped up to protect their fellow congregation members. I will continue to monitor this situation closely as more information becomes available. My thoughts continue to be with the victims, their loved ones, and the entire community during this time.”
