Neighborhood comes collectively to help teen with most cancers

St. JOHNS, Mich. (WLNS) — The neighborhood of St. Johns has come collectively to help a teen with a uncommon type of most cancers.

16-year-old Ayla Marecek was identified with Lymphoblastic Lymphoma final fall, and the neighborhood wished to do one thing to assist her and her household.

A bunch of ladies from Clinton County began a fundraiser for her generally known as “Benefit for Ayla”, and phrase unfold.

“Hard to come to terms with, you know? Kind of feels like we’re still in shock over it,” stated Jason Mareck, Ayla’s father.

Jason and his spouse, Laura Levasseur, say they spend most of their time within the hospital, and the payments had been including up. “Our costs are going to the hospital. You know? Even twice a week, and missing those days of work, you know? It’s pretty expensive.”

The couple can lastly get some reduction with the neighborhood wrapping its arms across the household.

The fundraiser consisted of a silent public sale of donated objects, a card enjoying event, and a dinner.

Stacy Marecek, Ayla’s aunt, says she’s grateful to know there are folks on the market who care.

“She can’t even hardly get out of the house. Her trips to DeVos Children’s Hospital weekly are what her life consists of now,” stated Marecek. “A lot of these people they don’t even know Ayla, and the outpouring. It just reminded me that there are so many good people in this world. I feel so grateful for everything that they’ve done, and this community is just amazing.”

Jaosn and Laura say phrases cannot describe their gratitude.

“Not even having to worry for the past few months is huge to us…It’s a huge relief,” stated Jason Marecek.

“It’s got us talking about being able to care for Ayla, and less worry about trying to get to work, because we have no paid time off anymore,” stated Laura Levasseur.

Ayla has been out and in of the hospital for months, however at present was a pleasant reminder that she’s not going via this alone.
