Nepal protests drive spike in Bitchat downloads

Jack Dorsey’s peer-to-peer decentralised messaging service Bitchat noticed a big spike in downloads from customers in Nepal throughout this week’s social media crackdown. 

It does this by permitting customers to ship one another messages in an area space utilizing Bluetooth over “mesh networks,” with the gadgets solely performing as “client and server.”

Because of this, it claims to supply “censorship resistance, surveillance resistance, and infrastructure independence.”

Anti-corruption protests in Nepal befell this week after the federal government banned 26 social media platforms.

Protestors claimed it was an try to cease the “nepo-kid” anti-corruption marketing campaign which centered on a sequence of social media movies seemingly exhibiting the lavish existence of the youngsters of Nepal’s political elite.
