New nursing program launched at UM Well being-Sparrow to spice up regional nurse numbers

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — College of Michigan Well being-Sparrow is launching a brand new Bachelor of Science in nursing program with the College of Olivet, a personal Christian school in Olivet, Michigan.

This system will give Olivet nursing college students medical coaching on the hospital. College students will achieve expertise in a rural hospital and UM Well being-Sparrow’s Stage I trauma heart. After graduating, college students can apply for positions at Sparrow or any hospital of their selection.

“This partnership is a direct funding in the way forward for well being care in our neighborhood,” said Kathy Marble, chief nursing officer at UM Health-Sparrow Lansing, in a news release sent to 6 News. “This program will produce nurses we wouldn’t have had in any other case. It’s an entire new cadre of scholars who will change into our future caregivers.”

This system is designed to enroll 24 college students every semester. Michigan Medication mentioned the aim is to considerably enhance the variety of new nurses within the area.

“UM Health-Sparrow has been gracious in providing us places for various clinical experiences that enhance our nursing student’s education,” mentioned Jodi Swain, director of nursing on the College of Olivet.
