Most provisions take impact 180 days after the rule is revealed within the Federal Register, the company stated.

“The FTC received more than 16,000 public comments throughout this rulemaking process,” FTC chair Lina Khan stated in a press release.

“People shared how much of a headache it’s become to cancel all kinds of subscriptions-from gym memberships and meal delivery kits to medication, home repairs, phone plans, and more.

“The FTC’s rule will finish these tips and traps, saving People money and time. No one needs to be caught paying for a service they now not need,” Ms Khan added.

She additionally highlighted how the pandemic “brought to the surface” these points, which included requiring in-person cancellations whereas companies had been closed.

The Biden administration included the FTC proposal as a part of its ‘Time is Cash’ initiative.

This was introduced in August with the intention of cracking down on consumer-related hassles.

The US Chamber of Commerce criticised the administration’s strategy, saying in August that “heavy-handed regulations that micromanage business practices” will result in greater prices for customers.

Democratic presidential nominee vice chairman Kamala Harris highlighted the “click-to-cancel” rule final month as a coverage she would pursue if elected.

FTC commissioners handed the ultimate rule on a 3-2 vote.
